    April 20 Workshop Teaches
How to Effectively Network for a Job

PHOENIX, Ariz. – March 18, 2009 – In today’s challenging job market, whom you know and not what you know have become more important than ever in landing that next position. Research shows approximately 80 percent of all jobs are found through networking. To help job seekers network more effectively, two Phoenix-area networking organizations—Executives Network and NetworkingPhoenix.com—have teamed up to sponsor the Networking Your Way to a Job workshop April 20 from 8:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the Arizona State University SkySong Innovation Center in Scottsdale (1475 North Scottsdale Road at the intersection of Scottsdale and McDowell).

“With around 80 percent of all positions found through networking, it’s more important than ever for people to approach networking events in the most effective way possible,” said Executives Network President and CEO Molly Wendell. “This fast-paced, interactive workshop will teach job seekers how to secure meetings with key decision makers, build a network and land the position they want.”

Job seekers will also learn what networking events to attend, how to make the best first impression, how to leave a lasting impression, and the seven pitfalls to avoid, added Wendell.

Wendell, who will be providing the instruction, was once out of work for two years and three days before she realized networking as the key for finding a job. At the workshop, she’ll share the networking techniques she discovered that helped her to receive almost 30 job offers in 90 days for positions never posted. Wendell and her organization have since helped more than 2,500 individuals find new employment.

“Building relationships and uncovering opportunities through networking is key to the job search, especially in today’s downshifting economy,” said NetworkingPhoenix.com Founder & CEO Gelie Akhenblit. “Professionals are finding a need to reinvent themselves because they’ve been at their job for years and they’ve never had to network. They have amazing skills, but don’t know how to tap into that hidden job market or even utilize the network they may already have.”
